Fred M. Perkins
Fred M. Perkins was born January 13, 1906 in Carlisle, Arkansas to Mary Zimmerman and Charlie C. Perkins.  Charlie was a dairy farmer; it was located 2 miles Northeast of Carlisle.  He also had a grocery store whre Food Market is now located.
  Fred attended the Carlisle school and went to grade school where the City Park is now.
  Some of the jobs he had growing up were; Delivering ice in the summer & coal in the winter; worked in a drug store and worked in a movie theater that was in the 100 block of East Main (Carlisle).  He also worked at the rice mill and he got $1.50 a day when he worked in the hay fields.
  In 1926 Mr. Perkins attended business college in Chilicothe, Missouri.  He waited tables which paid his board.  He left there in May of 1927 going to Amarillo, TX, where he worked for a lumber company.  That summer he went home on vacatoin and applied for a job at Arkansas State Rice Milling Company and came back to Carlisle that September.  He went from bookkeeper - cashier to manager and then general manager over all the units in Arkansas.
  In 1932 Fred married Mary Catherine Tedford, and they had 2 children, Betty & Fred Jr.
