Joseph Edward Walls
Joseph Walls was born April 16, 1908 to Andrew and Ida Smith Walls at Tomberlin.  His father, A. J. was elected Sheriff in 1898.

Mr. Walls attended school at Tomberlin until 1914 when they moved to Little Rock.  He went to Centennial School and graduated from England High School in 1926.

During the depression he said they had plenty to eat because they raised their own hogs and had a big garden.

Joseph Walls married Memorial Gravette in Tomberlin in 1938.  they had three children, Sandra, Edwina and J. A. Walls.

Mr. Walls lived in his family home until the past few years.  His father started construction on the house in 1907 and completed it in 1908.  It was primarily built of gum, oak and hickory from the area.  The ceilings are 12 feet high.  The original roof was of cypress shingles on gum lathing.  The house had a 16 foot wide hall that reached the full length of the building with doors at the front and rear.  During a 1950 renovation, the ceilings were lowered to 9 feet.
